Based on the belief that physicians and other health professional can
make a special contribution to the movement for nuclear disarmament and
peace, and committed to promoting grassroots education, mobilization
and activity to create a critical mass of citizens supporting these
goals, PSR-Pittsburgh has established cooperative working relationships
with a number of activist non-governmental organizations that play an
important role in local civil society.
Most importantly, PSR-Pittsburgh is an active member of a coalition of
more than 20 local groups devoted to nuclear disarmament, "ABOLITION
2000: The Western Pennsylvania Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons".
This coalition was named The Western Pennsylvania Campaign for a
Comprehensive Test Ban, when founded in 1990, but changed to the
present name , when its goal was achieved in 1996 by the adoption and
signing of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and the establishment of
moratorium on nuclear tests by the declared nuclear nations.
Other partners of PSR-Pittsburgh (all
members of the coalition) include Global Solutions (formerly World
Federalist Association of Pittsburgh), Peace Links, and
the Thomas Merton Center.
