WHY PITTSBURGH?
This is where we are. PSR-Pittsburgh members reside and are rooted in the Pittsburgh area, relate to local health professionals and medical institutions, and influence patients, other citizens and leaders, as experts, as teachers and as credible authorities on PSR issues. PSR-Pittsburgh has local visibility, name recognition, respect and credibility. This local presence facilitates education, advocacy and organization by engaging other physicians, medical institutions, patients, citizens, and leaders. By creating public awareness and arousal, this contributes to the essential influence on elected officials in Congress and the U.S. Administration to create the political will required for nuclear disarmament.

Important successes and experiences have been promoted by PSR-Pittsburgh's focused participation and contributions to efforts in the Pittsburgh area, as exemplified by:

Declarations supporting Nuclear Test Ban and Abolition signed by hundreds of physicians
Exhibitions of health effects of nuclear weapons placed in local hospitals, libraries, schools and colleges
Resolutions supporting nuclear abolition and de-alerting passed of Allegheny County and PA medical societies
Declarations supporting nuclear abolition and de-alerting issued by Pittsburgh Mayor
Participation in local broad coalition, which gained support for Nuclear Test Ban, De-Alerting, and Nuclear Abolition, by thousands of citizens, local religious leaders, and Pittsburgh City council
Participation in local delegations to area Congress representatives, Senators, Pentagon, White House, US State Department and Department of Energy, and United Nations to project Pittsburgh area support for nuclear disarmament measures.
